Galloway Forest Park is the largest Forest in the UK. The Dark Sky Dome is situated in the heart of the Carrick Forest, within the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, Scotland. The geodesic dome provides a peaceful and unique stay, with all the comforts of home.
The Dome
The Dome is of Geodesic construction which makes it extremely strong and easily stands up to whatever the Scottish weather can throw at it. Whether that be 80mph winds or a covering of a foot of snow. The Diameter of the Dome is 9.5m with a height of 4.75m. This gives the Dome a spacious interior with a floor space of 75m2..
The Dome’s large panoramic window purposefully faces due East so as to give the best views of the rising sun over the forest and provides the 1st glimpse of the rising stars as daylight fades and the Easterly skies become dark.
Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park
The Galloway Forest Park is comprised of 7 forests: Glen Trool, Carrick, Bennan, Dundeugh, The Garraries, Clatteringshaws and Kirroughtree. The 1st tree was planted in 1922 at Bennan Forest, since then the Forest has grown to well over 1 million trees. Previous to this the ancient forest was almost completely deforested from cultivation, and later sheep grazing and grass burning. The return of the Forest has brough many woodland creatures back into the area.
The Dark Sky Dome is located in the Carrick Forest at Tallaminnoch (from Scottish Gaelic ‘talamh meadhanach’ meaning the ‘Middle Ground’. Surrounded by miles of Forest, Lochs and moorland.
The Galloway Forest is a paradise for walkers. The Merrick a Corbet of (843m) is the highest knuckle of the Awful Hand range, it is the highest hill in the South of Scotland. There are at least 10 Grahams ( hills over 610m )in the Park. You could spend a whole month starting walks from the dome with little repetition of them.

The Dome has everything you need if you wish for a restful retreat to corrie in and sit and watch the wildlife and stars through the panoramic and Sky light windows. The Dome acts like a giant cosy wildlife hide with many of them especially the red squirrels only meters away.
Or for those wanting adventure and exercise there are many miles of walks to go on and explore the forest, Lochs, Rivers and waterfalls.
The Carrick Forest is the most Northerly of the 7 Forests that make up the Galloway Forest Park.
It Spans across South Ayrshire, from the village of Barr in the West to the Loch Doon in the East.
